How to Quiet the Mind and Keep it Grounded
We all know the feeling of annoying mind chatter. Often it is harmless, but sometimes it can become destructive and fuel anxiety, panic and worry. Well, there is always an app for that, but for many, screens, computers and digital solutions are also stressful and might not be the best solution for everyone. Most mental health experts will recommend meditation, and we agree. Meditation is a fantastic way to calm the mind, but it requires the time and space to get the job done. Also, it is our humble opinion and experience that knows when anxiety sets in, it is often when you are not in a place that is conducive to meditation.
So, what can you do to quiet the mind when the anxiety chatter starts to set in? We would like to offer a few suggestions and tips:
● Breathe. We do this all the time, but to use your breathing to find 10 seconds of stillness in your mind, be more careful and conscious about it. ...
● Exercise
● Watch a bird flying in the sky
● Listen to Music
● Help Someone
● Go Outdoors
● Hang Out With a Dog or a Cat, even a Hamster
When we started talking about this and researching the topic (over a warm cup of Moodify Instant Oats) we discovered this cool worksheet that was put out by Mental Health America:
They give simple easy to remember exercises designed to help you calm down and stay grounded when the feelings start to overwhelm you. Even if you’re not to the point of being overwhelmed, these are fun exercises that helped us appreciate what is around us and be a little more aware of our surroundings.
Give it a try, it works.
